Yemen - A Great Potential for Renewable Energy Market - 2006
Yemen has a long coast of more than 2500kms with a width of
30-60kms along the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea. Average annual
wind speeds (measured at 10m height) exceed 8 meters/second in most of the coastal
areas. There is also great wind energy potential for dozens of Yemeni islands and inland areas due to sustainable wind tunnels produced by the mountainous
terrain. As for solar energy, the average sunlight exposure in Yemen is
about 3500 hours/year. The current use of solar energy is in rural
telecom stations, drinking water pumping technology, water heating,
vaccine refrigeration in remote areas, and rural electrification.

Yemen - Oil & Gas Equipment Opportunities and Trends - 2006
Yemen is a small, non-OPEC oil producer. According to the Ministry of
Planning and International Cooperation, Yemen has proven crude oil
reserves of 4 billion barrels, concentrated in five areas: Marib-Jawf
Block 18 in the north (estimated at 800 million barrels); Masila -Block 14 in the south (estimated at 800+ million barrels); East Shabwa - Block 10A
(estimated at 180 million barrels); Jannah - Block 5 (estimated at 345 million
barrels); and Iyad - Block 4 in central Yemen(estimated 135 million barrels).
Since the discovery of oil in commercial quantities in the Marib
Governorate in 1984, the petroleum industry has led Yemen's economic
growth. Yemen's oil production currently stands at 400,000 barrels per
day. The discovery of associated gas coincided with the
discovery of oil in the Mareb/Al Jawf basin; however, the
proven quantities of natural gas reserves began to increase substantially with the expansion of oil explorations in the region to reach 14 trillion cubic
feet in 2000.
