Featured Topic "The Great Debate: The Future of American Trade"
"The Great Debate," finds its origins dating back to 1920 when astronomers Harlow Shapley and Heber Curtis debated the size of the universe. The vigor for this formal form of public discussion revived its popularity during the Kenndey-Nixon presidential races and is now being used to address "The Future of American Trade."
The 2007 National DEC Conference will feature its own Great Debate and its focal point will be "The Future of American Trade." The debate will be moderated by a member of the national media in a presidential debate format and will cover the dynamics of U.S. trade today and what is in store for the American economy in the future.
The Debate will be broken into 3 Main Topics:
- The Stakeholders of Trade: will be debated by important representatives of business, industry, the environment, trade, labor and government
- In the Trenches of Trade: will feature leading executives from American companies sharing their experiences on the opportunities, challenges and inequities of the global trading system.
- The China Trade Card: will be debated by China trade experts and will explore China’s role in world trade and how that impacts American businesses and individuals.
