Foreign Commercial Service Officers promote U.S. exports and defend U.S. business interests overseas. Serving as Commercial Attachés in U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad, they are are charged with representing the commercial interests of the United States. Duties include assisting individual U.S. firms seeking export sales and major project opportunities, advocating on behalf of U.S. industry and service sectors to foreign governments and businesses, participating in negotiations on general trade and investment issues, and managing locally employed U.S. Commercial Service staff.
