EVENT! June 20- Site Tour & Presentation of Union Pacific Railroad’s Intermodal Facility

In 2006 Union Pacific Railroad opened its $83 million, 260-acre state-of-the-art intermodal terminal. The new container terminal increased the railroad’s international and domestic container capacity in the Salt Lake City area by three times and improved traffic efficiencies.

Union Pacific’s intermodal facility serves dozens of Utah companies that rely on intermodal rail freight to ship and receive containers with various types of materials from around the world. UP’s Salt Lake City Intermodal Terminal was designed to handle a capacity of 250,000 over-the-road trailers or ocean-going containers annually.

Union Pacific Railroad is one of America’s leading transportation companies. UP Railroad links 23 states in the western two-thirds of the country and serves the fastest-growing U.S. population centers. Union Pacific’s diversified business mix includes Agricultural Products, Automotive, Chemicals, Energy, Industrial Products and Intermodal. The railroad offers competitive long-haul routes from all major West Coast and Gulf Coast ports to eastern gateways. Union Pacific connects with Canada’s rail systems and is the only railroad serving all six major gateways to Mexico, making it North America’s premier rail franchise.

Phil Faulkner, Director of Intermodal West, has graciously agreed to give the WTA a personal tour and presentation of the facility.
