Renewable Resources: Wind Energy
Uruguay faced the worse energy crisis in its history in 2003-2004 and early 2005. The government is conscious it must strengthen the country’s energy situation in order to avoid another crisis. With petroleum at record prices, an uncertain supply of power from Argentina, and the lack of rain at times affecting hydroeletric production, Uruguay is looking into new sources of energy, especially renewable resources. This report reviews the structure of the Uruguayan renewable resources sector, in particular wind energy, from the perspective of its potential for U.S. exports.
