The Department of State strongly warns U.S. citizens against travel to Iraq. The latest advice to U.S. travelers can be found on the State Department web site, http://www.state.gov, under Iraq. Restrictions on the use of U.S. passports for travel to Iraq have been lifted but the security situation remains dangerous. Information on country conditions and official orders from the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) is now available on the CPA’s web site, http://www.cpa-iraq.org. Potential travelers may find Official Order Number 16, “Temporary Control of Iraqi Borders, Ports and Airports,” of particular interest.

Airline service is expanding and travelers should consult carriers for the latest information. Road travel into and through Iraq is unpredictable and potentially dangerous. Plans are moving ahead for Iraqi Embassies and other diplomatic missions to reopen following the post-war closures. Until they do so, no visas, passports or other Iraqi consular services are available.

There are new opportunities every day for trade with Iraq, and if you want to find out about them, a good site to visit is the Export-Import Bank's page of Useful Iraq Links . Here you'll find information and contacts for Iraqi banks and businesses, as well as legal information, trade leads, bidding opportunities with the U.S. government, links to U.S. government agencies, a guide to doing business in Iraq, and much more.
