ELS Experience and Diversity

The first ELS Language Center opened in 1961. Since then, ELS has helped more than 1,100,000 students from over 175 countries learn English quickly and effectively. ELS offers many attractive locations in the United States of which the great majority are on university campuses. Students can choose from a variety of programs including full time intensive English, a Prep Program for the TOEFL iBT, Business English, private instruction for Executives and youth vacation programs.

Location and Housing Choices

We offer a choice of more than 60 centers throughout the USA. Students can choose to live in a student residence (many of which are on campus) or in a homestay with a local family. Apartment options may also be available at some locations. Our students can enjoy the use of campus facilities and find many opportunities to interact with local students.

Three Pathways to University Acceptance

ELS offers students 3 paths toward fulfilling their English language requirement for admissions into universities and colleges:

  • Acceptance of a designated level of the ELS Intensive English for Academic Purposes program in place of the TOEFL at more than 650 universities and colleges ( see
  • Taking the TOEFL iBT at one of ELS’s centers
  • Taking the IELTS test at one of our many dedicated ELS IELTS testing centers.
