Outreach: Iraq Reconstruction Procurement Seminar in Bangkok

Rebuilding IRAQ Seminar

CS Bangkok organized a two-day conference with the Thai Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance, May 23-24, 2006 in Bangkok to present opportunities for Thai companies in USG procurement, particularly in Iraq. The seminar was held in appreciation for the Royal Thai Government's role in Operation Iraqi Freedom. A team from the US Army presented detailed instructions on registration in the USG procurement system and actually registerd 35 of the 110 attendees. Ambassador Boyce, Embassy Defense Attache, Mr. Mark Lumer of the US Army, Advisor to the Minister of Finance and SCO Bacher made opening remarks at the conference, which received extensive local press coverage. Ministry of Finance procurement officials viewed with great interest the tranparency of the US process, as their Ministry is repsonsible for Thai government procurement which suffers from transparency issues. This session is also considered trade capacity building under the suspended Thai-US FTA negotations.
