The Embassy of the United States of America in Phnom Penh,
Cambodia, in cooperation with the U.S. Embassies in Bangkok,
Vientiane, and Hanoi; the U.S. Consulate General in Chaing Mai,
and Ho Chi Minh City; and the American Cambodian Business Council
(Amcham) is organizing a September 29-30, 2009 Greater Mekong
Subregion (GMS) Energy Conference. The conference is
designed to complement the Asian Development Bank’s Greater
Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation (GMS-EC) program goal of
establishing regional production and distribution of energy.
We hope that the conference will allow public and private
sector representatives from the region to learn about the GMS-EC
scheme and network with relevant actors to contribute to the
process of regional energy integration.
The conference aims to include speakers from the public and
private sectors in Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and
the U.S., and will include energy producers, technology
suppliers, financiers, government officials, NGOs, media,
academics, and the interested public. Topics will range
from understanding energy policies and opportunities in member
countries to a case study on energy trading in relationship to
the expanding GMS market. The conference will also include
workshops on topics such as human resource development,
marketing, government tenders, e-governance, and building a
business network that will provide participants the valuable
opportunity to network with one another and encourage deeper
cooperation between key actors, most notably private sector
representatives.
The proposed synopsis and agenda are attached for your
reference. Further updates can be found on the conference
website at: http://cambodia.usembassy.gov/gms_conference.html.
