September 30 & October 1, 2007:  U.S. Embassy Education Fair 2007 / Canada

Participating in the US Embassy University Fair will provide you with excellent networking opportunities to meet representatives from Ottawa's prestigious universities, colleges (public and private), technical colleges, public and private training institutions, as well as the Diplomatic community.  Ottawa represents the second largest city in terms of student’s enrollment in the province of Ontario, with a student population surpassing 57,000 at the university level, and 40,000 at the technical college level.  Consider aspects such as Canada's average per capita income of US$65,000 (US$56,700 in the Province of Ontario), the Canadian dollar's steady appreciation to the U.S. dollar for the last three consecutive years, the proximity to the US, and a shared language makes Canada an attractive market for recruiters in the education arena.  For more information about the event please contact:  Luz Betancur, Commercial Assistant at 613-688-5216, email: luz.betancur@N0SPAM.mail.doc.gov

October 30 - November 19, 2006: Middle East and Turkey Education Tour Organized by LindenWorld events have highlighted the need for universities to diversify their international student population with students from this culturally rich and vibrant region. While growth in the recruitment market in the Middle East remains relatively static, the region presents an exceptionally unique student market from which to recruit. Students are well qualified, highly motivated and financially capable. Places at local universities remain limited and, importantly, governments continue to fund students. In addition, the market is not saturated with U.S. university representatives, and tour members will see firsthand the hospitality of the people in the Middle East. Linden’s extensive connections with Embassy staff, educational advisers, marketing firms, AMIDEAST, schools and universities will provide exceptional inroads for universities recruiting in the region. This year’s tour begins with an in-depth, weeklong visit to Turkey, stopping in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara, and ends in Cairo, Egypt. Contact Linden Tours at 202-237-0164 or visit their website at www.lindentours.com.

October 29 - November 4, 2006: Scandinavia Education TourDuring the 2005 Linden Washington Program, the organizer learned that Sweden and Norway are unique among European countries because they continue to offer subsidized loan, scholarship and stipend funding for their students to study abroad. This makes study at U.S. universities and colleges an option that many may not have considered. The robust economies of Iceland, Norway and Sweden also provide additional incentive to consider study in the U.S. The strength of their educational systems, the government funding options and the historical ties to study in the U.S. make this student market a viable option for Linden’s first recruitment tour to Scandinavia. There is a long tradition of students from the Nordic and Scandinavian countries seeking out study opportunities in the U.S. The value of U.S. degrees is recognized not only by students but by the governments as well. While these countries remain a key market for undergraduate (60%) as well as graduate students, the increase in student mobility within Europe and to other English-speaking countries has contributed to a decrease in Scandinavian students coming to the U.S. This factor makes it more important than ever to capitalize on our long tradition of exchange with Scandinavia and to renew our recruitment efforts in the region. Contact Linden Tours at 202-237-0164 or visit their website at www.lindentours.com.

October 21 - 22, 2006: U.S. University Fair – Nagoya and Tokyo, JapanThis is a premier student recruiting fair in Japan for regionally-accredited U.S. colleges and universities. These fairs in Japan are part of the U.S. Higher Education Fairs offered by Institute of International Education (IIE), and co-sponsored by the Japan-U.S. Educational Commission. Interested U.S. institutions are encouraged to contact IIE for registration information. September 10 - October 1, 2006: Latin America and Caribbean Education TourLinden’s three-week tour focuses on a distinctly different sub-region each week. They begin in Central America and visit Honduras, El Salvador and Panama. The second week highlights South America, with visits to two cities in Ecuador (Quito and Guayaquil) and two in Colombia (Bogota and Barranquilla). The stop in Barranquilla will provide an opportunity for students and counselors from Cartagena to join. Linden ends the tour with three stops in the Caribbean. They are visiting the Dominican Republic and Jamaica for the first time and returning to Trinidad and Tobago for the third time. According to Open Doors, enrollments of students from South America (34,693) as well as Central America and Mexico (19,227) were nearly unchanged from the previous year. A drop in the numbers from the Caribbean merits some more attention from recruiters. Contact Linden Tours at 202-237-0164 or visit their website at www.lindentours.com.

September 12 - October 1, 2006: India and Sri Lanka Education TourThe organizer, Linden Tours, has extensive relationships with key schools, educational advisers, U.S. Embassy staff and the Foreign Commercial Service. They have learned how to target marketing efforts to attract an excellent number of very highly qualified candidates to our University Fairs. The Linden India Tour also includes two unique features: separate hours at the University Fairs for undergraduates and one-on-one interview sessions with qualified students the day after the fairs. This fall, the tour visits seven key cities and then continues on to Colombo, Sri Lanka for its final stop. Although the market in Sri Lanka is small, it is growing and the Sri Lankan students are eager to meet with U.S. university representatives. In 2005, over 14% (80,466) of all international students came to the U.S. from India, representing the largest population. India remains the new driving engine of international student growth. While many of these students seek graduate degrees, the undergraduate market continues to grow. Contact Linden Tours at 202-237-0164 or visit their website at www.lindentours.com.

September 25 - 28, 2006: Europe MBA Fair - Switzerland, Austria, SloveniaOrganized by the U.S. Commercial Service, the MBA Fair is now in its tenth year and has become a pivotal platform for international marketing of U.S. MBA programs as well as related graduate studies in international law, diplomacy and economics. This year, Ljubljana, Slovenia will be added to the MBA Fair’s well-established venues of Zürich and Vienna. The participation fee is $850 for one city, $1,400 for two cities, and $1,800 for all three cities. Each participant will be responsible for travel/hotel expenses. September 28 - October 24, 2006: Asia Education TourThe Linden Asia Tour offers university representatives a comprehensive schedule designed to provide a strong professional program as well as opportunities to see and experience some of the region’s incredible cities. This year’s tour begins in the Southeast and includes a stop in Ho Chi Minh City for the first time. Interest from Vietnamese students has risen dramatically in the past few years, with the latest IIE report showing an increase of 16% in the number of students coming to the U.S. Other stops include Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, along with a return to Jakarta after an absence of several years. The Northeast portion begins in Taipei, continues to Hong Kong, stops in Shanghai and Seoul and ends in Tokyo. Hong Kong ranks 15th among countries sending the most students to the U.S., and the other four stops are in the top 10. Asia continues to be the largest sending region of students, accounting for 58% of all international students in the U.S. An expected economic recovery in Japan and continued growth in China should help fuel a GDP growth of 7.2% in East Asia. June 7, 2005: Teleconference Briefing on the UAE Education Market
Learn about the newest opportunities for U.S. education in the United Arab Emirates from the comfort of your own office for free! Join us for an informative teleconference briefing on June 7, 2005. Speakers from the U.S. Commercial Service in Dubai & Abu Dhabi as well as from the U.S. Consulate General Public Affairs Office and student advising office in Dubai will provide you with an overview of the UAE system of education, the perception of US education, and resources to help you effectively market your programs to students.

Education in the UAE is going through tremendous changes and reforms. The Ministry of Education has shown great focus on enhancing and modernizing the curriculum, and support of professional and innovative education techniques such as In-Class e-Learning. At the same time, the Ministry of Education is enforcing strict regulations to govern the quality and standards of education in the country. The Ministry now requires local institutions to meet its accreditation requirements that include: academic standards, faculty qualifications, facilities, computers, and well-equipped libraries. Similarly, the Ministry has ceased to recognize degrees offered by local universities and colleges that claim affiliation with foreign institutions by offering Distance Learning programs and Online Courses. This however, does not apply to educational free zones such as Knowledge Village. Currently, Knowledge Village is the base for such institutions originating from India, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Iran, and Australia, but none from the US.
