Cenetek  Receives Export Achievement Certificate

January 2, 2002                            San Jose USEAC

Cenetek, Inc., based in Morgan Hill, California, is the designer and manufacturer of the new  “Rocket Drive” solid-state computer or hard-drive.  The Rocket Drive functions as a hard drive, storing data using memory chips rather than magnetic media and has no moving parts. The Cenetek product is designed as a system component, and is engineered to have the most minimal system footprint.

As a start up company, Cenetek is a new client of the commercial service. The company was referred to the San Jose USEAC by a local venture capital company through outreach by the Commercial Officer Joe White. Cenetek has just begun manufacturing solid-state Rocket Drive units for the domestic market and – with the help of commercial Officer Joe White at the Silicon Valley USEAC – was beginning to explore the prospect of international sales. White spent a number of counseling sessions with the company’s new business development manager, Randy Helmonds, and to help the company to organize their export documentation, identify harmonized tariff numbers, Explorer Bureau of export administration requirements for possible export licenses and prepare the company for their first export orders.  What was originally planned to be a slow and steady process, unexpectedly resulted in an immediate opportunity. Cenetek began receiving orders from the new e-commerce website and, a custom via assistance of CO White, quickly turned around a handful of export sales, all new markets for this first-time exporter. Among their initial orders was a sale worth approximately $6000 to Korea.  Cenetek   has also established a value-added distributor and general importer in Europe.
