SENIOR COMMERCE EXECUTIVE TO LEAD TRADE MISSION TO SAUDI ARABIA

This mission will introduce U.S. energy and infrastructure suppliers to end-users and prospective partners from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  The Saudi Arabian energy and infrastructure markets are among the most dynamic in the world, and major development projects are planned in these sectors.  Saudi Arabia’s rapidly-growing economy and strong ties to the United States make it one the world’s most promising markets for U.S. suppliers.  To help U.S. firms leverage opportunities in the Saudi energy and infrastructure sectors, a senior-level Department of Commerce official will lead a trade mission to Riyadh and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, December 6-8, 2010.

Participation in this trade mission is restricted to U.S. companies exporting U.S.-sourced goods and services from the United States.  All company applications will be vetted by a committee of the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

SAUDI ARABIA LOOKS TO SMART BUILDINGS TO SATISFY HOUSING DEMAND
In its issue of August 18, 2010, the Arab News daily newspaper quoted the organizers of Saudi Build 2010 and Saudi Stone-Tech, two major construction exhibitions in the Kingdom, as stating that smart buildings are planned to go up all over the country at a total cost of US$40 billion between now and 2018.  Saudi Arabia, according to the show organizers, has decided to invest in Smart or Green Building Technology as a means of promoting long-term sustainability and energy efficiency in the country.  To learn how U.S. companies can use these two events — scheduled for Oct. 18-21 at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center — to take advantage of export opportunities in Saudi Arabia’s hyperactive construction market, please contact Commercial Specialist Habeeb Saeed in Riyadh at Habeeb.Saeed@N0SPAM.trade.gov .
SAUDI FURNITURE DEMAND TO SOAR AS CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY GROWS
On August 15, 2010, a leading Saudi daily newspaper, the Saudi Gazette, quoted a research report  forecasting that the furniture industry in Saudi Arabia is expected to post a compound annual growth rate of about 11.8 percent between 2010 and 2013, one of the highest growth rates in the world.  This growth is fueled by increasing population, surging income levels, the popularity of Western-style furniture products, and the current construction boom in Saudi Arabia.  (The construction sector in the Kingdom is expected to grow by 7 percent in 2010.)

This presents huge export opportunities for U.S. household and office furniture companies.  Currently, Saudi Arabia is the fifth largest export market for the U.S. furniture industry, with sales of $135 million in 2009 and $74 million for the first six months of 2010.

U.S. furniture makers should contact Commercial Specialist Wasif Shah at Wasif.Shah@N0SPAM.trade.gov for advice on how to take advantage of these export opportunities.
