Interning at the Sacramento U.S. Export Assistance Center was quite a rewarding endeavor. As an International Trade Assistant for the U.S. Commercial Service, I was given the opportunity to be a leader in a professional and high-paced office atmosphere which six months later has instilled in me the confidence and skills needed to pursue a career in International Business.
At this position, I was given such responsibilities as communicating directly with business executives from small and medium sized enterprises, coordinating with overseas Commercial Service offices, conducting customized market research for clients, attending tradeshows and events as a representative of the U.S. Department of Commerce – U.S. Commercial Service.
I would highly advise those interested in any sort of government or business career to take on this challenge. The relationships I’ve made and mentorship I’ve received cannot be duplicated elsewhere. They must be earned, and being an International Trade Assistant is a perfect place to start.
