The Secretary of Commerce has approved a new name for the Bureau of Export Administration which will now be referred to as the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).
The new name, Bureau of Industry and Security, reflects the full extent of the Bureau's current portfolio. While principally focused on export control functions when created 15 years ago, the Bureau today is responsible for a broad array of issues arising at the intersection of industry and national/economic/cyber/homeland security. The new name encompasses the activities of all the Bureau's offices and employees -- both those that discharge export control duties (which remain critical), as well as those involved in promoting national security in other ways.
Detailed information is available at http://www.bis.doc.gov or from Peter Liston, Moscow-based Export Control Attache.
or Natalya Shipitsina, BIS Assistant.
