Facts on the Nigerian Mining Sector:

• The Nigerian government has been focusing on reactivating the mining sector, especially solid minerals development, and is targeting the development of Nigeria’s diverse minerals. www.msmd.gov.ng
• Opportunities in the solid minerals sector in Nigeria include the local sale and the export of crude and processed solid minerals, the importation and local marketing of modern mining equipment technologies and spares, as well as modern mineral testing and quality control equipment technologies and reagents.
• There is huge market potential for various services associated with developing these minerals. The World Bank is pursuing a $75-million mining sector re-structuring, which commenced in 2004, so the present moment is favorable for the above-recommended projects.
• A USTDA funded feasibility study identified an estimated $ 28 million for the redevelopment of coalmines in Nigeria with $20 million for equipment, the balance for engineering and services.
• American companies can avail themselves of the opportunities offered by the reforms to partners with local companies in exploiting for these minerals and in provision of mining equipment, services and technical expertise especially training.
