U.S. Congresswoman Melissa Hart Presents Cranberry Firm with an Award for Export Achievement
CRANBERRY, PA – On October 17, 2005, Congresswoman Melissa Hart will present Preservation Technologies, with the U.S. Commercial Service’s Assistant Secretary Export Achievement Award. This award recognizes U.S. companies that have made their first export sale or entered a new overseas market with the assistance of the U.S. Commercial Service. Preservation Technologies, who through their technology, protects documents from aging and degradation, has been actively pursuing international opportunities.
"Preservation Technologies serves as an excellent example of the caliber of companies we have in our region and that with the right approach and the right assistance our companies can succeed in the global market," Hart said. "Preservation Technologies’ contract in Poland is not only good for the company, but is also good for our region."
The U.S. Commercial Service selected Preservation Technologies for the award based on the company’s successful efforts to develop the Polish market. With assistance from the US Commercial Service offices in both Pittsburgh and Warsaw, Poland, Preservation Technologies was able to successfully win a substantial contract with Jagiellonian University in Poland to use the company’s equipment and technology to preserve historical documents.
“Preservation Technologies success in Poland allows us to bring $1.75 million to Butler County economy and increase our local labor content by $400,000,” stated Jim Burd, President and CEO of Preservation Technologies. “ Without the assistance of the U.S. Commercial Service, the Polish contract could have slipped through our fingers. Their advice and guidance was essential to our contract award.” Preservation plans to increase their exposure throughout Europe and will continue to call on the U.S. Commercial Service for assistance. They hope to soon announce a $1.2 M deal in France.
“By highlighting Preservation Technologies success, we hope it serves to motivate other small companies and demonstrate that exporting is not just for the big guys,” added Lyn Doverspike, Director of the U.S. Commerce Service in Pittsburgh. “Preservation Technologies is a great example of a sharp company that leveraged local U.S. Government resources to grow their market overseas.” Doverspike’s office is part of the U.S. Commercial Service’s global network of 250 offices in the U.S. and overseas that assist U.S. companies locate agents or distributors, execute background checks of business partners, provide market and industry information, and promote U.S. products and services overseas.
