November 7-10, 2004 - The first U.S.-Africa Agribusiness Conference was held in the Monterey Marriott and Monterey Conference Center in Monterey, California. As part of the event, Director Rod Hirsch presented the U.S. Department of Commerce's Export Achievement Certificate to Dr. Ismael Chikhoune, President of California Green Valley, in recognition of the company's export success to Africa. After the conference, the Oakland Export Assistance Center also arranged site visits for an African delegation to McLaughlin Coffee and Numi Tea, both are local East Bay companies.
