The Romania Green Building Council, with support from the U.S. Green Building Council, The United States Commercial Service, The Romanian Embassy to the United States and the American Chamber of Commerce – Romania, has organized a seminar in New York City Monday, November 17, 2008 to discuss export and investment opportunities for green building projects in Romania and the Central Eastern European region. While they are focused on Romania, they will also offer insight into surrounding countries as they share similarities (recent European Union entrants, significant new construction and renovation work projected, strengthening building codes, etc.) and many of their colleagues and member companies are quite active in the region.
Background:
As recent entrants to the European Union, Romania and neighboring countries will continue to be strong performers in the CEE construction market, 500k to 800k new housing units are predicted for Romania alone with significant growth in all types of building and infrastructure ahead. The Romania Green Building Council has identified an opportunity for solution providers who can satisfy the requirements for “building green”. Strong economic growth, favorable legislation, more stringent building codes, increasing green certification interest, higher energy prices and decreasing energy subsidies make the CEE region an attractive prospect for potential exporters of green construction technology, materials, other products, and services or investors in green real estate projects.
Event Purpose:
To highlight export and investment prospects for green construction in Romania and the Central Eastern European (CEE) region. The event will discuss both the business opportunities and the opportunity to make a timely intervention to mitigate unsustainable practices in a high growth region.
