AUTOMATED EXPORT SYSTEM COMPLIANCE SEMINAR AND WORKSHOP

The United States Census Bureau now requires mandatory filing of export information through the Automated Export System (AES) or through the AESDirect for all shipments where a Shipper’s Export Declaration was previously required. Penalties may be imposed per violation – both civil and criminal –for the delayed filing, failure to file, false filing of export information, and/or using the AES to further any illegal activity.

The NJ District Export Council, Fairleigh Dickson University and the Newark Export Assistance Center invite you to join us on Wednesday, February 18, where federal experts will discuss the new rules and how to ensure compliance.

Registration and breakfast opens at 7:30 a.m

The Federal Government  experts will cover the filing requirements, how to classify  commodities by providing an understanding of the Schedule B classification requirements, as well as provide a thorough overview of the AES as well as  port requirements and efforts against terrorism and international narcotics trafficking.

The second day workshop will provide certified training on AESPcLink in order to successfully file Electronic Export Information (EEI) via the Windows-based desktop PC component, AESPcLink.

The seminar and workshop sessions will be led by:

Joe Cortez, the Branch Chief for the Regulations, Outreach, and Education Branch with the United States Census Bureau’s Foreign Trade Division. He was instrumental in the development of the Foreign Trade Division’s Automated Export System (AES) compliance program. Cortez was a recipient of the Silver Medal Award, a prestigious honor bestowed on an individual by the Department of Commerce. He recently received the Census Bureau’s Director’s Award for Innovation.

Rebecca DeNale, an Economic Statistician in the U.S. Census Bureau’s Foreign Trade Division, currently works in the Export Minerals section of the Commodity Analysis Branch. Its mission is to ensure the quality of the trade statistics and respond to customers’ inquiries. One of her responsibilities is to assist the public in the classification process of commodities.

Nyitre J. Rodgers works in the AES Branch serving as Project Lead to the Fatal Error team. She is primarily responsible for Fatal Error monitoring processes and procedures. Rodgers worked on the compliance team responsible for researching and visiting non-compliant exporters; targeting their weak areas in an effort to establish best practices and problem resolution. She facilitates seminars and workshops on the AES system, educating the trade community on the program and how to use it effectively.

The cost of the seminar is $190 for the full day, with continental breakfast and lunch included. The workshop cost is $80
