International Presentations at LAGCOE 2009

The U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service organized International Presentations at LAGCOE 2009 in cooperation with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), PEMEX, Ecopetrol, and Chevron. International Presentations were also offered by Commercial Officers and Energy Specialists from Ghana, Kuwait and Iraq.

"What is Happening in Ghana and Kuwait"

Senior Commercial Service Officer Heather Byrnes, based in Accra, Ghana, presented information to U.S. companies on the latest discoveries in Ghana and issues critical to doing business in this developing market.  Commercial Service Energy Specialist Ahmed Yousef from Kuwait provided an industry update on key sectors in Kuwait.

Doing Business in Iraq

Commercial Service Advisor Sam Kafil presented information on doing business in Iraq and key
market opportunities for U.S. companies.  Mr. Kafil brought a delegation to LAGCOE from Iraq, and introduced his delegates to U.S. registrants following his presentation.

"Selling to Kuwait Oil Company (KOC):  Partnering in a 55% Production Increase"

Mr. Mohammad Husain, the Deputy Chairman and DMD for Planning and Gas at the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) presented on opportunities in the Gulf with KOC.  The country of Kuwait has 10% of the earth's proven oil reserves and plans to increase its production from 2.6 to 4 billion barrels of oil per day using American vendor and service providers.  U.S. firms with high tech solutions to heavy oil problems continue to have excellent opportunities in the powerful Arabian Gulf region.

Doing Business with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC)

"PEMEX:  Mexico & The Gulf of Mexico Basin Activity"

Dr. Pedro Silva, Sub-Director of PEMEX Exploration and Production, joined a panel discussion for U.S. companies on the Gulf of Mexico Basin Activity. He presented on Mexico’s 2009-2012 National Infrastructure Program and the future plans of PEMEX (the National Oil Company of Mexico).  Other presenters included Mr. Dan Smallwood, General Manager for ConocoPhillips GoM/Louisiana/East Texas and Mr. Steve Daines, President of U.S. Operations for Maersk Oil America.

Ecopetrol and Chevron on "Oil and Gas Developments in Colombia"

Mr. Javier Gutierrez, the President of Ecopetrol, S.A. (the National Oil Company of Colombia) and Mr. Ali Moshiri, President of Cheveron Africa and Latin America Exploration and Production presented information to U.S. companies on Ecopetrol's future investment plans for oil and gas development in Colombia and Chevron's activities in Colombia and in Latin America.  Ecopetrol's strategic plan includes participation in exploration blocks in Colombia, the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, Peru, and other countries.  The United States is, and will continue to be, Colombia's most important supplier of oil and gas equipment.
