You are invited to attend an engaging public forum and free CLE on Tuesday, June 24 focused on How Good Companies Can Get in Trouble: Export Compliance and Corporate Integrity.
The program will begin with opening remarks by Darryl Jackson – Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Enforcement, Bureau of Industry and Security, U.S. Department of Commerce. Following opening remarks by Mr. Jackson, the program will feature an Enforcement Update by Kevin Delli-Colli – Deputy Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement, and Ned Weant – Director of Antiboycott Compliance for Export Enforcement.
The program will also feature a presentation by Renee Osborne – a Management and Program Analyst of the Bureau of Industry and Security focused on a Corporate Compliance Management System. The remarks will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Ron James – President and CEO of the Center for Ethical Business Cultures, with panelists Renee Osborne, Ronald Orzel – Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge (Chicago, IL Office) for the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Export Enforcement, and Win Swenson – partner in the Compliance Systems Legal Group and former Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
The luncheon keynote speaker will be Egil "Bud" Krogh – former Deputy Counsel to President Nixon, Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs, and Undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mr. Krogh later pled guilty to a felony in connection with his role as co-director of a secret White House investigative unit known as the “Plumbers”. Since Mr. Krogh’s re-admission to the bar, he has spent the last 27 years practicing energy law and mediation in the state of Washington. He recently published Integrity: Good People, Bad Choices, and Life Lessons from the White House.
The final part of the program will feature a unique case study and discussion focused on the recent Minnesota case of U.S. vs. MTS Systems Corporation, Criminal No. 08-MJ-106(FLN), and the lessons to be learned from that federal investigation and prosecution. Speakers include Wendy Hauser – Special Agent-in-Charge (Chicago, IL Office) for the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Export Enforcement, and Jeff Zinsli – Corporate Import/Export Compliance Manager for MTS Systems Corporation. The discussion will be led by Hank Shea – a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Minnesota and Senior Distinguished Fellow at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. Shea was the last of several Assistant U.S. Attorneys who prosecuted the case and the person who negotiated the plea agreement that included MTS Systems Corporation’s agreement to sponsor and pay the entire cost of this public forum and CLE program.
The seminar will be held on Tuesday, June 24 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm at the Crowne Plaza St. Paul-Riverfront in downtown St. Paul, MN. Registration will open at 7:30 am. Seating is limited.
