The U.S. Department of Commerce's Manufacturing team participated in NPE 2009 (National Plastics Exposition) during the week of June 22 - 26! The Manufacturing team is an industry-focused working group dedicated to helping U.S. manufacturers explore opportunities in foreign markets and increase export sales.
The plastics show, held every three years, drew representatives
of over 100 countries with over 44,000 attendees and 1,600
exhibitors and was held at McCormick Place in Chicago.
NPE was a Commerce-selected International Buyer Program (IBP) and
was promoted in 82 countries around the world by the U.S.
Commercial Service. The CS Manufacturing team worked closely with
the International Trade Administration’s Global Trade Program,
the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) and Commercial Service
foreign Commercial Specialists to coordinate:
- One-on-one meetings between foreign buyers and U.S. exhibitors;
- Showtime, a Commercial Service program for foreign Commercial Specialists to counsel U.S. companies one-on-one on foreign markets;
- Presentations on the export process, Commercial Service products and services, U.S. Export-Import Bank and U.S. Small Business Administration programs for export finance and risk management;
- Counseling to U.S. companies on an as-needed basis during the show
Commercial Specialists who traveled to NPE 2009 came from
Bulgaria, Russia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil, Colombia,
India, Vietnam, Egypt and Mexico.
