What is Green Building?

Green building focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use whether that resource is water, energy, or materials.  It also reduces the carbon footprint, waste, pollution, and energy use of a building.  These buildings and their surrounding landscape/architecture can be residential, commercial, industrial, or military.  Effective green building reduces operation costs, improves interior space environment, and reduces environmental impact.

Why Green Building?

Buildings account for a large amount of land use, energy and water consumption, and air and atmosphere alteration.   As of 2006, buildings used 40 percent of the total energy consumed in both the US and European Union.

Why Europe?

In the European Union's (EU) attempt to become more environmentally friendly, they have enacted legislation creating new regulations and standards in the construction industry.  These new regulations have opened the door to a huge market for companies with "green" products in the following markets:

  • Energy Efficient Appliances:  residential and commercial
  • Micro Generation:  wind and solar among others
  • Water Efficient Products and Systems
  • Environmentally Friendly and Recycled Building Materials
  • Green Design/Architecture
  • Waste Management Technologies
  • Construction Techniques and Materials that protect against extreme weather
  • Insulation for walls and glass
  • Green Consulting and Services

What is the Road Show?

The Green Building Road Show is coming to you.  This is your chance to talk to International Trade Specialists from five European countries (France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and the Nordics) about the specific opportunities they see in their markets.  They can help you navigate the waters around some potential hangups and guide you towards increasing your exports in the EU.
