India Energy Efficiency Trade Mission

November 16-20,2009

New Delhi - Chennai - Mumbai

Background

In May 2008 the Ministry of Power stated that the energy conservation potential with today’s technologies could be 20,000 MW. The Government of India (GOI), aligned with five year plans, saved only 877 MW from 2002-2007, but from 2007-2012, the target is 10,000 MW. With some of the highest energy prices in the world, Indian companies already

However, new GOI targets will soon accelerate the growth of the energy efficiency market in India. To reduce both energy costs and waste, the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) will soon regulate large energy users such as railways, aluminum, cement, chlor-alkali, pulp and paper, fertilizers and steel industries, as well as power generation plants. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) will establish sector targets by March 2010, after which point large energy users will be regulated on their energy usage. This provides tremendous potential for U.S. manufacturers of energy efficient products and energy service companies (ESCOs) to tap into these lucrative opportunities.

Mission will target: industrial energy efficiency (with a market potential of $27 billion) and greenbuilding ($3.1 billion in market potential). All companies are encouraged to apply.

Trade Mission

The trade mission begins in New Delhi and will center around the "Energy Efficiency Technology Cooperation" conference, organized by the GOI, US Department of Energy and USAID. This event will allow the trade mission participants to network with GOI officials and propose policy changes to drive the market. US Commercial Service-India will coordinate one-on-one matchmaking appointments for the participants in New Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. In addition, mission attendees will visit various sites in Chennai and participate in a financing roundtable in Mumbai.

Registration deadline: September 30, 2009.
