U.S. Department of Commerce Business Development Mission to Vietnam
The Vietnam's market represents the next great opportunity for U.S. companies:
- Vietnam's economy continues to grow rapidly with a GDP of $61 billion (2006) and a young population of 84 million
- On January 11, 2007 Vietnam became a member of the World Trade Organization which will lead to a better trade and investment environment in Vietnam
- Since the signing of the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement in 2001, two-way trade has increased from $1.5 billion to $9.7 billion
U.S. companies have the chance to break into or increase their current sales in this growing market by joining Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez as he leads a delegation of U.S. businesses on the Business Development Mission to Vietnam from November 4-8, 2007.
An Incredible Business Opportunity
The Department of Commerce realizes that while there are a number of U.S. companies that have been successful in Vietnam, some companies need assistance negotiating the Vietnamese market to take advantage of the great opportunities that exist.
This Mission represents an opportunity for both experienced exporters to explore these opportunities as well as assist U.S. companies that are currently doing business in Vietnam to participate in a program designed to increase their current level of exports.
The Mission will assist U.S. businesses initiate or expand their exports to Vietnam's best U.S. export sectors by making business-to-business introductions, providing market access information, and probiding access to government decision makers. The Mission aims to:
- Assist U.S. companies already doing business with Vietnam increase their business there;
- Assist U.S. companies that are experienced exporters to enter Vietnam for the first time; and
- Address obstacles to trade with Vietnam, including transparency, rule of law, trading/distribution rights and intellectual-property rights protection.
Provide information on U.S. Government trade financing programs, through the inclusion of representatives from U.S. Trade and Development Agency, the Export Import Bank of the United States, and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (as appropriate).
Who Should Participate
U.S. companies that are already operating in Vietnam as well as U.S. companies that have demonstrated export experience and are committed to making sales and business contacts in Vietnam.
Cost
After a company has been selected to participate on the mission, a payment to the Department of Commerce in the form of a participant fee is required.
Principal Participant fee: $7,000.00
Additional Firm Representative: $2,100.00
Expenses for travel, lodging, and incidentals will be the responsibility of each mission participant.
