Trade Mission to West Africa

Senegal and Ghana, Nov. 4-9 2007

This November, the Pennsylvania International Business Development Group, together with the U.S. Commercial Service’s Gold Key Service, will be leading a delegation of U.S. companies on a trade mission to the West African nations of Senegal and Ghana.  The mission will be accepting 10 companies for participation.  (Deadline for registration is September 1st, 2007).

Why Trade in West Africa?

SENEGAL - Senegal’s real growth in GDP has averaged over 5% annually over the past decade, making it one of Africa’s most politically and economically stable democracies.  Annual inflation is in the low single digits.  With Senegal’s capital city on the westernmost tip of Africa, a stable currency and government, and some of the best infrastructure on the continent, Senegal is an excellent starting point for U.S. companies seeking to do business in the region.

GHANA - Ghana is the largest producer of gold in West Africa and is currently in the process of developing a large number of new mines throughout the country.  In addition, timber and cocoa remain major sources of foreign trade.  Through Ghana’s implementation of the Millennium Challenge Compact with the U.S., the country is poised to substantially improve its infrastructure, likely to spur a large demand for construction equipment and foreign expertise.  The country of Ghana is stable politically, completing a free and fair election in the year 2000 and benefiting from the existence of a multiparty political system.

Benefits to Participating U.S. Companies

Participating U.S. businesses will receive pre-screened one-on-one business appointments with potential trading partners in Senegal and Ghana.  In addition, the mission organizers will provide in-country market research, assistance with the follow-up process after the mission, and advanced information about local companies prior to meeting with them.   The mission will also arrange for hotels, interpreters, and drivers in West Africa.
