Baltic Clean and Green Energy Conference (Tallin, Estonia - Oct. 14-15, 2009)

The Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are poised to develop their renewable energy resources in order to meet EU climate change goals.  The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Policy and International Affairs is planning a conference to bring companies, financiers, and government entities together to highlight clean energy technologies that can assist the region in diversifying its energy resources and to forge lasting public/private partnerships in the months leading up to the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.

The Conference will be divided up into three topical areas: (1) renewable energy technology in the Baltics; (2) electricity infrastructure/smart grids and grid-appropriate nuclear power; and (3) project financing and tendering.

The main renewable energy technology options covered will be for wind, geothermal, and biomass energy sources.  The region is also preparing for the December 31, 2009, decommissioning of Lithuania’s regional nuclear power plant, Ignalina.  While Lithuania presses ahead with plans to construct a new regional plant, Estonia is also considering a smaller-scale nuclear power plant.

These projects will require appropriate tendering processes to ensure maximum transparency and access to the best companies operating in the region.  Industry experts will address how to effectively tender bids for renewable and nuclear energy projects.  Experts from U.S. and European financial institutions will also address renewable energy project finance to provide U.S. companies a clear understanding of the financing climate in the Baltic region.

"VIRTUAL” GREEN TRADE MISSION TO ITALY (Fall, 2009)

The U.S. Commercial Service will organize a “Virtual” Green Trade Mission to Italy in the fall of 2009.   The goal of the mission is to offer U.S. firms in the green-building, energy efficiency, and renewable energy sectors a cost-effective way to gain market exposure and identify potential agents/distributors.

Cost:  $350

Participants will receive:

  • A two-page “promotional brochure” on our U.S. Green Trade Mission website, including a summary translated into Italian.
  • Promotion throughout Italy through our industry partners and contact lists;
  • A final report on interested Italian companies, prescreened by the Commercial Service.
  • Optional but recommended:  A link to your “elevator pitch” video uploaded to YouTube – to put a personal “face” on your company’s products/services.

Why Italy?

  • The EU requires Italy to obtain 17 percent of energy from renewable sources by 2020.
  • Due to the high cost of electricity, Italy is expected to achieve “grid parity” in the cost of solar versus conventional sources by 2015.
  • Ample incentives exist in the form of favorable feed-in tariffs for alternative energy and tax deductions for solar thermal panels and energy efficient renovation (55 percent).
  • Energy efficiency is increasingly required for approval of building plans by local governments – national guidelines mandated by the E.U. are under development.

Get in on the ground floor of an emerging market opportunity with tremendous upward potential!

The registration deadline is October 30, 2009.
