CNUSA Magazine Helps LA Companies Sell Globally

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 24, 2004

Companies in the Los Angeles area looking to expand their export potential can take advantage of a new and improved export resource that targets 400,000 potential buyers worldwide.

Commercial News USA, a catalog-style magazine that includes individual product photos and descriptions as well as print advertisements is being completely redesigned and enhanced to make it an even more effective vehicle for promoting American-made products and services to prospective buyers and partners outside of the United States. The new edition will be published bi-monthly beginning in September 2004 under a private-public sector partnership initiative between the U.S. Commerce Department and ThinkGlobal Inc.

According to William Spitler, director of the U.S. Export Assistance Center, more and more area companies are looking to diversify their portfolios by making new sales abroad to countries such as Canada, The Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, China, Mexico, Brazil, and others.

“Ninety-five percent of the world’s consumers live outside of the United States, so the export potential out there is just tremendous,” Spitler said. “Our goal is to familiarize U.S. businesses with exporting. Commercial News USA is an ideal way to help get more small and medium-sized companies into the export game.”

Two such firms are 4C Foods Corp, a manufacturer of food and beverage items, and Global Tel, an international distributor of telecom services. Both firms have increased their export sales thanks to a diligent entrepreneurial spirit and participation in Commercial News USA, the official U.S. Department of Commerce magazine.

“Small and medium-sized businesses can benefit tremendously from a presence in the magazine,” said Spitler. “Commercial News USA is distributed by U.S. Commercial Service officials whose primary goal is to match American exporters with prospective customers outside of the United States.”

The magazine is distributed at embassies and consulates in 145 countries and sent directly to overseas buyers, representatives, distributors, government sourcing and purchasing agencies, government officials, and potential joint venture partners. What is the result? There are hundreds of export successes and agent/distributor agreements, and thousands of trade leads generated each year from the exposure U.S. companies receive as a result of advertising in the magazine.

In 2003, over $100 million in export sales and hundreds of business relationships resulted from advertising in the magazine. The deadline for companies interested in the September issue of Commercial News USA is July 2, 2004. The following issue will be published in November 2004.
