Event Summary:

SITL1SITL South China 2006, organized by Reed Exhibitions Ltd and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Guangzhou Sub-Council, was held on June 28-30 in Guangzhou, China, covering major sectors of Transport and Logistics Services, Air Transport & Air Cargo, Port Services and Equipment, Logistics Information Systems and Technology, RFID System and Technology, Industrial Vehicles and Material Handling Equipment. Even though the show has received TFC status, but the numbers of exhibitors and visitors turned out to be less than being expected, and the show space was small as well.

The U.S. Commercial Service Guangzhou worked with Reed Exhibitions in organizing a U.S. Pavilion at this event. There were 6 U.S. companies in the U.S. Pavilion and another 4 companies with U.S. background outside of the U.S. Pavilion, all recruited by Reed Exhibitions Ltd.

Exhibitors in the U.S. Pavilion included the following 6 companies:

  • The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey
  • Port of Tacoma
  • The Port of Long Beach
  • State of Virginia
  • State of North Carolina
  • Carrieweb Tianjin Ltd.

CS Liu Ying prepared the Industry Brief of China Logistics Market (written by Liu Ying), Railway Projects in Guangdong Province (written by Liu Ying) and Port Projects in South China (written by Senior Commercial Specialist Lena Yang) and distributed to the U.S. exhibitors.

The three ports and the two states were generally satisfied with the show according to the survey feedbacks. Mr. Hailey M. Fong, Director of State of Virginia Greater China Office said that they have accomplished their goals to promote their state and ports at the show.

Mr. George Li and Mr. Arthur Viegers Carrieweb Tianjin Ltd. said the industry reports we provided were very informative. But they were not satisfied with the show due to the limited professional visitors during the three-day show period.

Exhibitors with U.S. background outside of the U.S. Pavilion included the following 4 companies:

  • LXE Singapore Pte Ltd.
  • Shanghai Join Info System Ltd.
  • Zebra Technologies Asia Pacific, LLC
  • Printronix Inc.

SITL2CS Liu Ying talked with the above four companies and learnt that they were generally satisfied with the show. Concerning the long selling period of their products, they couldn’t make sales or sign agreements at the show.

On June 28th, Economic & Political Section Chief of the American Consulate General Mr. James Turner attended the opening ceremony of the SITL South China 2006 and visited all U.S. exhibitors at the show together with CS Liu Ying.

In the afternoon of June 29th, Commercial Representative of the U.S. Commercial Service Guangzhou Mr. Kent Guo visited all U.S. exhibitors at the show and provided on-site counseling to them.

Commercial Specialists Barry Zhang, Liu Ying, and Crystal Tang worked at the booth of U.S. Commercial Service Guangzhou during the three-day show period to provide on-site counseling and assistance to the American companies. Administrative Assistant Jenny Li and Driver Wang Weichao also provided logistics support to the show team.
