U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and Energy Secretary Steven Chu paid a visit to China from July 14 to 17, 2009. During the four-day visit to Beijing and Shanghai, the Secretaries stressed the importance of cooperation between China and the United States in slowing global warming and promoting clean energy and they were in talks with the Chinese side to build a Sino-US clean energy center for promoting the use of clean energy. Chu and Lock met with Chinese leaders including Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice Premier Wang Qishan, Vice Premier Li Keqiang and other leading officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Science and Technology Ministry, the Commerce Ministry, the Health Ministry and the Industry and Information Technology Ministry. Secretary Locke also spoke to the U.S. business communities at events hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce and U.S. China Business Council and closed his visit to with the groundbreaking for the USA Pavilion at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai.
