1. Hot off the Press: China Agricultural University’s Gymnasium Architectural Design Competition for the 2008 Olympic Games Wrestling Arena

The China Agricultural University (CAU) published a notice to find architectural firms interested in designing the wrestling arena for the 2008 Olympics Games. Only 8 of those initially submitting their applications by 17 March 2004 will be competing to design the 30,000 square meter facility (instructions can be found at http://www.cau.edu.cn/).

2. Beijing’s Second Cultural Olympics Festival June 23 to July 13, 2004

Beijing will hold the second Olympics Cultural Festival from June 23 to July 13, 2004; a senior official of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) confirmed this week. The theme of this year’s Olympic Cultural Festival is “Sports: Bridge of Culture and Friendship Linking East and West.”

The festival will feature exhibitions and forums on the Olympic Movement and a series of public activities in Beijing. BOCOG is to launch a global search for the mascot design for the 2008 Olympics. The Olympic Cultural Festival will be held annually in the lead up to the 2008 Olympics. The First Olympics Cultural Festival was held September 2003.

3. Beijing Sports Bureau looking for U.S. Artificial Turf and More

The Director of Planning, Construction, Finance and Stadium Management for the Beijing Sports Bureau is looking for U.S. manufacturers of the following: Artificial Turf to be used for field hockey and soccer; artificial running tracks; exercise equipment for both athletes and the general public (weights, treadmills etc..); physical testing equipment for athletes (muscles, stress, blood, etc..); and wood flooring for gymnasiums. The Director would like to attend any upcoming shows or events in the U.S. showcasing any or all of these products.
