China International Machine Tool Show (CIMT) 2005---4/11-4/17, Beijing

Event Summary:

CIMT2005-2CS China successfully hosted its first AsiaNow event at the China International Machine Tools Show from April 11-15, 2005. In conjunction with the Association of Manufacturing Technologies (AMT), CS China conducted value added briefings, Showtime appointments and counseling sessions at the U.S. Pavilion. Overall, AsiaNow was a definite success, linking specialists from Japan, Korea, Philippines, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenyang and Chengdu to the 58 American companies at the show. Over 15 Commercial Service products (GKS, IPS, etc.) were sold at the show, including the organization of a new trade mission to Korea, and several other export successes.

On April 11, Commercial Counselor William Brekke represented the Commercial Service at the Opening Ceremony of the CITM, joining government and industry leaders from around the world. DSCO Brekke was welcomed to the event by John Byrd, AMT President, and David Burns, AMT Chairman. On April 12, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Market Access and Compliance, William Lash toured the American Pavilion meeting with five of the leading American exhibitors to discuss their concerns and hopes for doing business in China. Later that evening, U.S. Ambassador Randt and Assistant Secretary Lash provided welcoming remarks at AMT’s America Night Reception.

CIMT2005-1On April 13, Special Advisor to the US Secretary of Commerce, Bruce Blakeman, Export Control Attaché Jeannette Chu, and Shanghai Commercial Officer Jim Golsen gave an in depth market briefing to twenty US companies. The briefing, which covered the current state of the Machine Tool Market in China, how the CS helps companies in China and export licensing issues was a lively and informative interchange. The AsiaNow Showtime Event was kicked off Wednesday morning as specialists from Shenyang, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Seoul, Tokyo and Manila converged on the U.S. Pavilion to meet with US exhibitors. Over the next two days, the specialists met with a combined 58 US companies as part of the formal Showtime appointments.
