Event Summary:
The U.S. Commercial Service organized a U.S. Pavilion at the 9th China International Environmental Protection Exhibition and Conference (CIEPEC 2005) from June 7 – 10 in Beijing. 10 U.S. companies exhibited in the U.S. Pavilion, occupying a total of 16 booths. CIEPEC is a biennial event, and has become one of the most important environmental shows throughout China.
On the opening day, June 7, Li Meng, Vice-chairman of China’s Political Consultative Conference, and Zhenhua Xie, Minister of China’s State Environmental Protection Administration visited the U.S. Pavilion. During this tour these VIPs engaged in dialog with the U.S. exhibitors about the potential for U.S. medical waste treatment products in China. In addition, Commercial Officer David Gossack was invited to take part in the show opening ceremony.
Both the Beijing environmental team, comprised of Commercial Officer David Gossack, Commercial Specialist Yi Wang and Ming Yang, and the Beijing trade show team, comprised of Commercial Officer Eric Wolff,Commercial Representative Marc Chu and Commercial Specialist Zheng Xu, worked throughout the entire show. During this time, CS Beijing assisted U.S. exhibitors and arranged several activities to further promote U.S. products and services.The activities include a FCS-organized technical seminar and a reception in honor of U.S. exhibitors at Minister-Counselor Craig Allen’s residence. Two Deputy Director-General of SEPA attended the reception and nearly 60 people attended the technical seminar.
Commercial Officer Eric Hsu, Specialist Stellar Chu, Scott Yao from CS Shanghai, Commercial Specialist Diana Liu from CS Guangzhou and Yang Liu from CS Shenyang also assisted during the show. During the event, the exhibitors at the U.S. Pavilion obtained many valuable trade leads. In addition, one export success was achieved on the spot by SPC Co., through the sales of $15,000 worth of product to a Chinese company as a result of FCS match-making services. The U.S. pavilion participants gave high scores to the Commercial Service on the return surveys. For example, JWC Environmental stated “ U.S. Commercial Service personnel were extremely helpful, courteous and hospitable… most important was the ability to bring existing and potential customers as well as design institutes to our booth to see our equipment first hand.”
