Make Your Renewable Energy/Conservation Energy Technologies Stand Out in Ontario’s Lucrative Energy Sector. Register Now
The U.S.-Canada Renewable/Conservation Energy Partnership Seminar is a new and innovative regional promotional program offered by the U.S. Commercial Service in Toronto. This event is designed to allow American manufacturers promote their renewable energy and energy conservation equipment and technologies in Ontario’s booming energy market. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to make a 25-minutes presentation to Canadian energy sector firms on how your company’s conservation and/or renewable energy equipment or technology will enhance the Ontario energy landscape, help Ontario meet the required 2,700 megawatts of new renewable energy by 2010, enhance electricity supply, transmission infrastructure and address air quality issues and climate change. Network with Canadian energy related firms and explore business partnerships at the U.S. Consulate reception, participate in pre-event briefings, and much more.
The Ontario Energy Industry: The Ontario government has set strict targets for energy conservation to reduce peak electricity consumption by 5% by 2007. Furthermore, the Ontario government is committed to phasing out the remaining 6,500 MW of coal-fired generation plants by 2009. As demand is expected to increase by 2,700 MW from 2006 - 2015, combined heat and power will need to be employed in order to keep Ontario’s energy grid functioning without any interruptions. As such, on June 15, 2005, the Ontario Minister of Energy commenced several procurement processes, including one for up to 1,000 MW of high efficiency combined heat and power generation projects across Ontario, including industrial co-generation and district energy projects. This directive also stated that preference should be given, through a separate procurement process, for projects fuelled by renewable energy sources and one for 250 MW or more of demand-side initiatives across the province.
Numerous energy procurement initiatives planned by the Ontario Ministry of Energy will create export opportunities for U.S. firms interested in designing, building, operating and maintaining the proposed facilities. As well spin-off opportunities exist for U.S. firms that can supply the required equipment, technologies and services to build these facilities.
