Market Overview for Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras
There are a large number of used vehicles on the roads every day because import taxes on new cars often make such purchases prohibitive. On average, drivers keep their automobiles for an average 5-7 years before purchasing a newer model. These vehicles require continuous maintenance and replacement services. Importers of automotive equipment for service stations and local used car importers have reported increasing sales over the last two years, a trend that is expected to continue.
U.S. Position
Imports from the U.S. enjoy a dominant position in the respective markets, with almost 50% of all automotive parts, accessories and service equipment coming from the U.S. The proximity of the U.S. to the region reduces lead times, facilitates communication, lessens transportation costs, etc., a significant advantage over products from Asian countries. U.S. products have always been well received in the region, and have responded to customer needs of high-quality and price-competitive products.
