Saint Joseph’s University making inroads to the region through a regional PKS

Saint Joseph’s University (SJU) based in Philadelphia completed a regional PKS in Singapore and Malaysia in March 2006. Both FCS Singapore and Malaysia organized an essay competition for SJU followed by an award ceremony where scholarship awards are presented to the winners in each country.

Singapore

On March 10, CDA Judith Fergin gave the welcoming remarks in the award ceremony and presented scholarships to three winners of an essay competition which had a total value of US$282,000. All the winners of the essay competition attended together with their parents. This is the second time that SJU has conducted the essay writing competition in Singapore to recruit students.

Malaysia

On March 10, Ambassador Christopher La Fleur gave the opening remarks in the award ceremony and presented scholarship awards to the two winners of an essay competition which together are valued at US$194,000. All the 8 participants of the essay competition attended together with their parents, teachers and counselors. SJU is entering Malaysia for the first time to recruit students. The essay writing competition is a creative way of recruiting students to a U.S. school that is not known to Malaysians.
