In 2009, the U.S. share of ADB total procurement reached $508 million.  This puts the U.S. in fifth place in overall procurement for the year. The figure is broken down into: $ 488 million for goods, supplies and equipment; and $20 million for consulting services. Cumulatively, the U.S. has won $6.4 billion since the start of bank operations in 1967.

ADB lending activities in 2009

ADB's total assistance to member countries reached an all-time high of $20.5 billion in 2009.  This includes $13 billion for 105 loans; $6 billion for 12 multitranche financing facilities; $220 million for five equity investments; and $274.5 million for 321 technical assistance projects.  The biggest borrowers for the year were:  Indonesia ($2.2 billion), Vietnam ($2.1 billion), China ($1.95 billion), India ($1.93 billion), the Philippines ($1.18 billion), Bangladesh ($1 billion), and Pakistan ($ 940 million).  The biggest sectors were: public sector management (35.4%), transportation/information and communications technology (29.3%), multisector (8.6%) and energy (2.9%).

The bank's lending is expected to stay at high levels in the near future.  Most of the bank's loans are used to procure goods, civil works and services.  In addition, ADB provides technical assistance to its member countries of about $200 million annually.  All of these translate to significant business opportunities for suppliers, contractors, engineering design and project management firms, and other consultants from the ADB’s member countries.
